A Weekend Away in Denmark

This past weekend, Amanda and I went to Copenhagen. It was so beautiful and warm! The perfect weekend away from cloudy Edinburgh. If you're planning on visiting the capital of Denmark, June really is the perfect time. To really experience the city, you have to rent a bike and take advantage of the huge bike lanes. Here's a few restaurants and landmarks you absolutely cannot miss:

Our hostel had bike rentals available at really reasonable prices!

The delicious nettle pizza at Bæst!

BÆST - Guldbergsgade 29, 2200 Copenhagen N
This amazing pizza restaurant is an absolute joy! It is so good we went twice (lol). Located in artsy Nørrebro, you can definitely gorge yourself on the most delicious wood-fire oven pizza and apps, then take a stroll around the neighborhood. I suggest going early or making a reservation; they get super busy, even on weekdays. Or pro-tip, go for lunch! They're usually way less busy, and you can take advantage of their awesome lunch tasting menu!

These cookie sandwiches are the best we've ever had!

Nicecream - Elmegade 30, 2200 Copenhagen N
After taking a walk around Nørrebro, you should be ready for some dessert and what better place than this delicious vegan ice cream joint! It is seriously the most delicious ice cream I've ever had. Trust me, your non-vegan friends won't be able to tell it's vegan! The Ol'Fashioned and Brownielicious are my favorite flavors. And you have to try the cookie ice cream sandwiches!

Paludan Bog & Café - Fiolstræde 10, 1171 Copenhagen K
This trendy book shop and café is a great place to do some work or reading. It's right by the university, so there are a lot of students and young people around. We spent a few hours working on our dissertations here. Plus, the smoothies are so delicious!

Beautiful panorama of Nyhavn

Nyhavn - Nyhavn 1-71, 1051 Copenhagen K
This quintessential neighborhood of Copenhagen is exactly what one picture's when imagining the capital of Denmark. It's absolutely beautiful, especially on a warm summer's day. While the setting is absolutely beautiful, the restaurants in Nyhavn are pretty much overpriced and touristy. So we suggest just walking around, then heading somewhere else for lunch.

Havnebadet Islands Brygge - Islands Brygge 14, 2300 Copenhagen S
This amazing pool built on the canal is so cool! It's pretty crowded in the summer, but well worth a visit. The water is so cold and refreshing, especially on a hot day. A great example of truly awesome Danish design.

Assistens Cemetery - Kapelvej 2, 2200 Copenhagen N
This beautiful cemetery is home to the grave of beloved Danish writer Hans Christian Andersen. It is also the perfect place for a picnic or sunbathing. The grounds are absolutely beautiful; it's a great place to take a break from bike riding.

Kastellet - Gl. Hovedvagt, Kastellet 1, 2100 Copenhagen K
This star-shaped military fortress dates back to the seventeenth century and is one of the best-preserved in Northern Europe. It is so beautiful and an awesome place to explore. Make sure you see the windmill, St. Alban's Church, and the famous Little Mermaid statue (although I think it's a little overrated) while you're up there!

Ice creams at Tivoli Gardens

Tivoli GardensVesterbrogade 3, 1630 Copenhagen V
This nineteenth century amusement park is so much fun! During the summer there are live musical performances all day. There are tons of restaurants, dessert places, performance spaces, and rides. We really enjoyed the open-faced herring sandwiches at Fru Nimb. There's so much to do here, you can really spend an entire day!

I hope you guys have a great time in beautiful Copenhagen! 😊Comment below with your favorite spots in Denmark.
